In Claremont well-heeled Village, a thief cracked open a newly delivered UPS box outside a boutique’s rear entrance and walked off, in broad daylight, with a $1,400 chandelier.

Daily Bulletin:
Friday’s noontime crime was so audacious, Three French Hens owner Brenda Monahan mounted a sting operation. She put out a second, less valuable chandelier that night, this time positioned in view of a surveillance camera.
Sure enough, about noon Saturday, the second chandelier was gone. But this time the pilfering by the white, middle-aged perpetrator was caught on tape.
The video “shows him walking down First Street,” Monahan told me Tuesday. “Can you believe this guy walks around with a chandelier and nobody stops him?”
Police have been given the video…

Apartment Therapy:
Every piece of used furniture has a story to tell. We only need to sit back and listen.
Darling, isn’t it obvious that I deserve to be the centerpiece?
Yet people are always trying to pigeonhole me. They stick me in some silly nook or on a side table, like an after-thought.
But, darling, I’ve come to realize that they’re just intimidated by my fabulousness. Most people wouldn’t know true class if it walked right up and lit their Lucky Strike.

The News Journal:
Thousands of crystals twinkled as a 5,000-pound bronze chandelier descended from the high, golden ceiling of the Philadelphia Academy of Music.
For 150 years, the chandelier served as the gilded centerpiece of the 2,900-seat auditorium. Now it is being shipped off to France for 13 months so it can be restored it to its original splendor, which has been tainted over the past century as it deteriorated and became modernized.
The 25-foot tall chandelier was the largest in Philadelphia when it was built by Cornelius and Baker, who created many of the light fixtures found in state capital buildings across the country. Over the years, it lost some of its luster as designers added black scoop lights, steel cups, hanging crystals and a large hanging metal ball.
As many as 40 percent of the chandelier’s 8,000 crystals were cracked, broken or replaced (sometimes with fakes), according to senior project director John Trosino. The French firm handling the renovation, Mathieu Lustrerie, plans to replace those crystals and remove the anachronistic additions.
Trosino spent many hours on the floor of the Academy of Music, staring at the ceiling and thinking, “Move that. Take that bit off.” He said the Academy had been hoping to fix it up for more than a decade. Now they have the funding and know more than ever about its original appearance.
“The chandelier will once again become the breathtaking centerpiece of the auditorium,” said Joanna McNeil Lewis, the Academy’s president. “It was this incredibly fantastic collection of fairy lights. What we’d like to do is bring it back to that.”
The project will cost about $1.2 million…

Shreveport Times:
Over the past few years, chandeliers have made their way from the dining room to the kitchen. Traditionally displayed in mansions, home foyers or formal dining areas, chandeliers are frequently appearing in non-traditional residential settings such as bathrooms, patios, walk-in closets, entertainment rooms and kitchens.
And they’re not just for the affluent anymore. From the ornate and sophisticated to the intricate and quirky, the chandelier is making a resurgence in all types of homes and rooms. They can add a touch of romance to a bedroom or bathroom setting or bring warmth and charm to a living room or kitchen. In the kitchen, the trend is moving away from the typical recessed kitchen lighting and toward stunning and unique chandeliers.
Shreveport residents Clyde and Lisa Hargrove, under the direction of local interior designer Marlene Shaw, decided on an imported French antique chandelier for the kitchen in their Spring Lake home. The rustic, crested piece makes an impressive impact over the island where it nicely accents the overall French look of the kitchen area.
“We’ve received so many compliments on our chandelier,” said Lisa. “Our guests like it because it is an antique.”
