Passado Composto (Composite Past), which also operates in the antique shop business, has been producing chandeliers with quartz crystals for approximately three years. The company distributes its products in large Brazilian capital cities and has exported to Argentina, the United States and Europe. Chandeliers are like jewelry, celebrity designer and frequent TV morning-show guest Tracy Porter said in a phone interview last week.

“The room is the outfit, and the chandelier pulls it all together,” said Porter, who designs light fixtures.

No longer are there rules about where chandeliers can hang. “Your only limitation is the height of the ceiling,” said Ashton Harrison, owner of Shades of Light in Richmond. “And now we’ve got chandeliers that can be hung up against the ceiling, so that covers that problem.”
